Tonight I went to my buddy's birthday party. I decided to wear Derek Jeter's Driven Black: a mysterious blend of exotic saffron, blood orange, and precious woods. I have two words for my experience: WOW!
Bioshock: I haven't played very far yet, but I love the atmosphere (sound, lighting, and setting) as much as I dislike some of the level layout choices (I hate the medical center), buttstab enemy spawns,
and poor design usage of my current plasmid selection. This is a game that's on my list of games to play not because I'm really enjoying it, but because it sold a ton of copies to critical acclaim and that means I should
take a look at it from a professional point of view.
The Egg "Forward": strange, yet compelling mixture of funky techno, ambient soundscapes, pop hits, and Bent-like experiments.
So far, this is right up there with Cut Copy and the Black Ghosts as some of my favorite music from this year.
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis: Zak recommended this one to me which made me nervous since I didn't like Henry Fool or
Gravity's Rainbow. So far, the book has been both amusing and compelling even though there are WAY too many characters which are hard to keep track of. Think of Monty Python plus time travel plus Victorian garage sales.
Babylon 5: I never thought I'd actually watch this show even though it's been recommended by so many different people with the warning that the first two seasons suck. I wouldn't say the first season sucks
so far. It's somewhere between Battlestar and Blake's 7. Luckily it's absolutely free to watch on Hulu.com and the perfect thing to have on in the background while I work.
